Michael Mithika is the founder of SAM. He is also Principal of J.M. Mantle & Co. Limited, a finance and advisory firm, which he co-founded in 1997, providing merchant banking and specialist consulting services to financial institutions and users of capital in sub-Sahara Africa.

Michael has worked as a consultant specializing development finance; specifically microfinance, including the analysis of financial systems and institutions as they relate to the development of financial services for low-income people.

He works with financial institutions at strategic and operational levels, to position and enable them to make institutional changes in order to deliver market-driven financial services and join the ranks of formal financial institutions.

Michael holds a BSc. Business Administration (magna cum laude). He has Investment Banking training from Euromoney and is accredited by CGAP to train courses in the Microfinance Skills for Managers.

Ms. Rosemary Kantai has over 25 years experience in the field of Microfinance. For 15 years, Rosemary worked in a senior position in one of the leading microfinance institutions in Kenya. Part of her job involved institution restructuring, development and launch of new products (for both the urban and rural clientele), designing product operational manuals, staff development and review of management information systems. She was also in charge of all the operations spread out in various regional offices in the country.

For the last 10 years Rosemary has been offering consultancy services focusing on capacity building for Microfinance professionals in order to improve access to finance in an efficient and sustainable manner. Over time she has undertaken various assignments for microfinance institutions, NGOs, development institutions and banks mainly in Institutional Assessments, capacity building, Business Development Services, Market research, project design and implementation.

Over and above her academic credentials, Rosemary has attended various trainings in and outside the country further enhancing her knowledge and skills in development finance. Rosemary is a Faculty member of the School of African Microfinance (SAM).

Lucy Nguru has over 15 years hands on experience in Enterprise Development - in Microfinance, Training, Product Development and Project Management. She managed micro finance operations of the Kenya Women Finance Trust (KWFT) for 12 years. KWFT has countrywide operations reaching over 400,000 women clients in MSMEs and uses group based methodology and individual lending approaches.

Since 2003 Lucy has been consulting as a trainer and business development consultant in the region. She has undertaken assignments in Enterprise Development with a bias on Microfinance training and Business Development Services in agribusiness.

Lucy holds a B.Ed. (Hons) in Business Education and Secretarial from Kenyatta University and is presently pursuing an MBA at the University of Nairobi. She is a certified International Labour Organization (ILO) trainer for Small & Medium Enterprises under the Expand Your Business (EYB) program. She is also a certified Business Edge Trainer (SMEs Solutions) by the IFC, World Bank Group 2009.
